Barcelona, 2026 — XPANCEO, a deep tech company building the next generation of computing, presents a digital demonstration of its smart contact lens technologies and ready-to-deploy industrial applications at MWC 2026. These solutions lay the groundwork for the company’s first fully integrated prototype combining image display, health monitoring, and wireless power in a single device which is scheduled for public unveiling in early 2027.

Over the past four years, XPANCEO has built more than 28 prototypes across multiple generations, each designed to develop and test specific functions of the future integrated product. At MWC 2026, the company is presenting the key enabling technologies: a microdisplay with a proprietary optical system, a wearable companion with a custom high-efficiency antenna, an autonomous microbattery with wireless recharging, a health monitoring platform for biomarker detection, and a transparent flexible electronics platform.

Beyond this, the company has already developed standalone smart contact lenses products that address critical unmet market needs in health monitoring, aerospace, operations, elite sport performance, and more. The Smart Contact Lens for Medicine Monitoring enables non-invasive detection of medication activity in the body, which is particularly important for adjusting treatment in complex therapies with pronounced side effects such as cancer and thrombosis. After wearing it, the lens is placed in a specialized container that uses advanced spectroscopy to detect and measure the drug's unique spectral signature. The exceptional sensitivity needed for a tear-based analysis is achieved with the help of сustom-developed gold nanoparticles — specifically shaped biocompatible structures, roughly 1,000 times thinner than a strand of human hair.

Another advancement across XPANCEO’s health-monitoring portfolio is the AI-powered Smart Contact Lens for Glaucoma Management, which allows a simple selfie with one’s smartphone to replace occasional routine tests that currently happen only during doctor appointments. This technology transforms the prevention approach for glaucoma, the leading cause of irreversible blindness worldwide. An updated AI model, trained on 10,000 measurements, now provides reliable readings across artificial eye models with different iris colors, strengthening validation and system robustness.

Among the other standalone applications developed by the company is the AR Vision Smart Contact Lens for Frontier Applications, created for environments from space missions and aviation to racing, where face-worn devices are impractical or obstructive. The system pairs a helmet-mounted external image source with a holographic optical element embedded in the contact lens that allows the eye to focus on the image comfortably.

By the end of this year, XPANCEO expects to complete the development of its first integrated smart contact lens prototype. Founders Roman Axelrod and Dr. Valentyn Volkov will later wear the prototype at its first public demonstration in the beginning of 2027. The company aims to replace multiple everyday devices with a single smart contact lens, a habitat for AI designed to bring AI-powered XR computing seamlessly into daily life.

XPANCEO holds 20 patent filings and has developed its technology portfolio in collaboration with leading research institutions and Nobel laureate Konstantin Novoselov, Chair of the company’s advisory board. Recognized among the top three physics startups worldwide by the Nature Index, the company continues to work at the intersection of advanced materials science, microelectronics, and AI-driven biosensing.
